Jan. 21 Monday in Motion Recap: Biggest obstacles to keeping active so far

This week’s question: What have you found are the biggest obstacles to keeping active so far this year?

Responses: There was a wide variety of obstacles that people have come across so far this year, but all very specific and tangible. In particular…

Andy said: “Two very different things: 1) winter bike maintenance is annoying and messy. I have to constantly clean the chain and brakes but they don’t stay clean for long. 2) Snorkeling while carrying d-gear was an interesting new challenge for me.”

Jeanette noted: “Lack of sleep would be one, I work 10pm-6am and its very hard to go to bed during the day. Along with keeping blood sugar levels normal while working at nights.”

Jen said: “I’ve been all over the place for the first part of January. I’ve missed out on having any consistent activity buddy so far this year, and I know that that has been my biggest help in staying active in the past! Looking forward to being home and picking things back up w Amy soon!”

Sarah explained: “I’ve got some weird stuff happening in my calves which is making running REALLY painful. So, I’m having to rethink my run-every-day-to-stay-sane routine. I’ve been switching it up, going to spinning class a few times a week, and just taking some days where I don’t do anything too h-core. I wanna run the Ottawa Half tho, so will have to do some serious *thinking* about what’s going on in my lower body, and what needs to change so that I can get back into the longer-distance runs!”

… and Shannon summed it up in one word: “COLD.”

What have your biggest obstacles for keeping to your 2013 exercise goals? How have you managed them so far?
