Ottawa Marathon Weekend

By May 28, 2012The Log Book

A wise man once told me, “You have a choice. You can throw in the towel, or you can use it to wipe the sweat off of your face.” (Okay, maybe that was a Gatorade advertisement, but still!) This past weekend, CIM and the T1/5.5er Community converged on the Nation’s capital take take on the Ottawa Marathon Weekend races.  And with the sun beating down on the 5k, 10k, Full and Half marathons, there was no shortage of sweat to be wiped.

On Friday evening, CIMers came together to relax, meet some new friends and chat about race strategies. Conversations were flowing – touching on anything from adjusting basal rates, to sharing iPod play lists to contemplating how to convince one’s legs to travel 5k, 10k, 21k or 42k! A huge thank you to Shauna and Stephen for hosting and for Medtronic for making the evening possible!

After distributing some NEW CIM race singlets and tees (again, thanks to Medtronic, Animas Canada and Bayer for their support!), picking up race kits and, of course, checking out the Great Glebe Garage sale, the CIM crew was ready to not only run in, but cheer on fellow runners in the 5 and 10k races. The Official CIM Cheering Section was located on the home stretch for both the 5 and 10k races, and was filled with a sea of green jerseys, cow-bells, banners and signs! Thank you to the Cameron family, Rebecca Fitzgerald and Gen Leduc for organizing the weekend’s cheering.

A huge congratulations to our 5k and 10k runners: Shauna, Terrence, Andy, Katie, Stephen, Hank, Trevor, Erin, Maria, Luke, Amy and Jen – many of whom completed their very first race ever!

Sunday morning saw another amazing crew of CIM runners take on the Full and Half marathons. Congratulations to Patrick Forget for setting a new Personal Best in the marathon; to Marco Bianchi for completing his first marathon; and to Chris Scully, Jen Stiglitz, Anne Hospod and Rebecca Cameron for showing us how it’s done in the Half Marathon.

The Connected in Motion community is so proud to have had such an amazing group of T1s and 5.5ers wearing the bright green CIM jersey on the race course, representing T1s and 5.5ers, far and wide!

Plans are already in the works to make the Ottawa Race Weekend 2013 an even bigger success.

Congratulations, again, to all of our runners!
