Words: Luke Cameron | Photos: Mike Last I had checked and re-checked my dry sac Wednesday night to ensure I had everything. I have a bad habit of forgetting one or two things when I go on canoe trips. I forgot an extra pair of shoes a month earlier on…
Written by Erin Randall Last weekend a group of 13 ambitious Type 1s and 5.5ers (friends, family members, and loved ones of anyone with T1!) set out on the beautiful waters of Killarney Provincial Park in sight of new friendships and endless adventures. The Second Annual 5.5er 3-day Canoe Trip…
Spring has been upon us for a whole month now. Yet mother nature isn’t quite on the same page as the rest of us. As the snow was falling on Saturday April 20 throughout Southern Ontario, the Connected in Motion community came together to forget about the sub-zero temperatures and…
Throughout my life with T1, I have heard countless speakers talk about the challenges of diabetes – the traditional ‘don’t let diabetes stand in your way’ stories. For the most part, I have found these stories inspiring. For the most part. Perhaps I am a bit overexposed to the diabetes speaking circuit,…

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of joining 14 other people with type 1 diabetes on the third Annual CIM Canoe Trip. This year we ventured into the backcountry of Algonquin to experience the warmth of the forest, the cool calm waters of Tom Thomson Lake, the quiet serenity of a night paddle across Burnt Island… and the gut wrenching screams of the pterodactyl-like ravens that came out at the break of dawn.
This past weekend, Connected in Motion experienced another first – The very first event dedicated to our community of 5.5ers (friends, family members, loved ones of anyone with T1!) The three-day backcountry canoe trip, which took place in Algonquin Park, Ontario, invited 5.5ers out to meet other 5.5ers. We even invite them to bring their Type 1s along!
