CIM Community Events are events that members of the CIM community are participating in outside of CIM’s Official Events and Programs. Organized and coordinated by volunteers, they offer opportunities for Slipstreamers to keep active and connected at the local level between major CIM events. They are often run by third-party organizations.

Running a 10K road race or a half-marathon? Taking on the challenge of an Adventure Race? Heading out kayaking? Doing your first triathlon? If you are planning something active and cool in your own community and want some Slipstreamers to join you, let us know!

Please contact Chloe at chloe@connectedinmotion.ca to discuss hosting a CIM Community Event in your town. You must have attended at least 2 CIM events before coordinating a community event.

What? Connected in Motion’s 4th Annual Winter Slipstream Weekend

Winter Slipstream is an active, social and educational weekend for adults (19+) living with Type 1 diabetes. But that explanation sounds so formal…

What it really is… is a weekend jam packed full of winter adventure, engaging workshops, great food and incredible people. It’s a chance to connect (or re-connect) with like-minded Type 1′s, get out and try something new, learn from each others’ experiences and celebrate the year’s accomplishments – focusing on the positive aspects of what we CAN do with Type 1 diabetes.

This is your year to get into the Slipstream.

NOTE: Winter Slipstream officially starts at 5pm on Friday January 27 and ends at 2pm on Sunday January 29. If need to make alternate arrangements for arrival/departure, no problem! Just let us know!

Connected in Motion is hosting it’s first Birdies for ‘Betes Golf Tournament on Thursday August 11th 2011 at The Highlands Golf Club in Bradford, ON.

We need your help. In order for this event to be a ‘hole in one’ we need golfers, sponsors and donations of prizes.

Are you a golfer? Are your family members golfers? How about your extended family? Neighbors? Work colleagues? Your boss? The girl sitting next to you on the TTC? The barista at your local coffee joint?

The CIMer who brings in the most golfers, prizes, sponsorships or any combination of the three will WIN $150 CIM Bucks (to be used towards CIM merchandise, registration and/or program fees). That’s more than half of your Slipstream registration!

Join Connected in Motion for our first Trail Mix ‘n Mingle Night in Toronto, Ontario. Thanks to the generous support of Medtronic of Canada, Ltd and Bayer Diabetes, Connected in Motion will be hosting an evening aimed at bringing together seasoned Slipstreamers (you know, six months have passed since Slipstream 2011, with only six more to go until Slipstream 2012!), introducing new Slipstreamers to the mix, sharing experiences, stories (and refreshments!) as well as hearing from an inspirational guest speaker.

The evening will also serve as a launching point for our Second Annual Summer Slipstream Canoe Trip. Canoe Trippers are invited to come out for the evening, take advantage of the Continuous Glucose Monitoring experience being offered for the duration of the canoe trip, attend a pre-trip meeting and spend the night at the host hotel (on us!), making it easier to hit the road bright and early on Friday morning!

Connected in Motion is super pumped to be taking part in a wild day of hill sprinting, mud crawling, web climbing, fire jumping craziness! There are different start times and the event is filling up fast, so make sure you sign up today! We will all end up starting and finishing the race at different times, but the earlier wave start the better. We have people signed up in the 11am wave as well as the 11:30 wave. The Diabetes Education and Camping Association’s DLead Council, in partnership with Connected in Motion, The Diabetic Children’s Foundation and the Canadian Diabetes Association are excited to bring DTreat — an educational weekend for young adults with diabetes — to Canada!

Stay in the dorms at Carleton University, learn about diabetes resources in our communities, spend Saturday evening in downtown Ottawa, share stories and experiences with one another and hear from some exciting guests (including some of Connected in Motion’s very own Slipstreamers!!)

This spring’s event will  bring together approximately 50 young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 for Canada’s first ever Dtreat weekend .

DTreat sessions will focus on topics such as diabetes and pregnancy, diabetes and active living, diabetes advocacy, diabetes and mental health, financial issues surrounding diabetes, health insurance, research and technology and the history of diabetes.

Thanks to the generous support of Medtronic of Canada Ltd. (www.medtronicdiabetes.ca), the cost of DTreat Ottawa is $50 and includes all meals, snacks, programming, accommodation and evening entertainment. Each participant is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from DTreat program.

Join Connected in Motion on a 3-day, 2-night flat water canoe trip for adults (18+) with Type 1 diabetes.

North of Parry Sound, nestled between Lake Nipissing and Georgian Bay, lies French River Provincial Park. Within it’s bounds, the French River, designated a Canadian Heritage River in 1986, flows 110 kilometers from lake to bay. Historically, Voyageurs and Aboriginal people used the river as a place to meet and exchange goods.

The CIM team will use the river for a similar purpose. Over the course of the weekend, we will meet, exchange ideas, share stories and devise strategies for managing diabetes ‘in motion’ and living life with diabetes without limits.

Join us for an incredible action packed and fun filled experience with a group of extraordinary people.

No paddling experience necessary. Base level of fitness required. We will be paddling 4-6 hours per day and have a few portages. A positive attitude and sense of humor are mandatory.

This Sunday January 16th, lululemon athletica Banff is putting diabetes on display!

The usual mannequins in yoga wear will be replaced by REAL Type 1 gals on bikes, spinning their hearts out to raise awareness for Type 1 diabetes in the Bow Valley and beyond.

The goal is to spin in lululemon window for 8 hours straight.

Why? We want to educate people about Type 1  diabetes, inspire people (with diabetes and without) to live active healthy lives and to connect with people living with diabetes in the Bow Valley.  Of course, we want to show that people with diabetes can live life without limits as well!

Collectively, these Type 1 spinning gals have climbed mountains, completed Ironmans, traveled the world and more…together, they have decades of experience living active, adventurous lives on insulin.

We’re raising awareness, not money, so don’t be shy!

Swing by the store, cheer us on, chat to us about diabetes, distract us from our aching butts and burning legs and help us put diabetes on display in Banff this weekend.
