Are you a 5.5er? (Wait – What is a 5.5er, you ask? 5.5ers are an important part of the diabetes community, that’s for sure! They are Friends, Family, Loved Ones, Co-Workers, etc of People with T1 – who always seem to have that ever-elusive BG of 5.5mmol/L.) Are you someone who has someone in their life living with Type 1 diabetes who wants to get out and meet some other 5.5ers, share experiences and have some fun on a Canoe Trip tailored just for 5.5ers and their T1s? Join Connected in Motion for our Second Annual 5.5er Canoe Trip from June 20-23. Register as an individual, or bring your Type 1 along for the trip too!

5.5ers and Type 1s will be invited to join us at the George Lake Campground in Killarney Provincial Park anytime after dinner on Thursday June 20. We will have car camping sites available for the evening, allowing us to get an early start on Friday morning. This weekend will feature base-camp style tripping. We will spend a the morning of Friday June 21 paddling and portaging, arriving to our base-camp on OSA Lake by mid-afternoon. We will have the opportunity for some spectacular hiking and swimming, close-by to camp. We will spend Saturday June 22 on a day trip paddling through some of the most picturesque landscape Killarney has to offer (in fact, this area was the inspiration for many Group of Seven paintings!) We will have the opportunity for some hiking and exploring before reaching the shores of Georgian Bay. The evening will be spent back at OSA Lake. We will plan to be back to the George Lake Campground and ready to depart by 2pm on Sunday June 23.

This year’s 5.5er trip will cater to a wide range of skill levels and experience. Need to canoeing tips? No problem! Basic skill instruction opportunities will be provided on Thursday June 20.
