WHO: Everyone! Adults + Families with Type 1 diabetes, community members, supporters

This is a great weekend for anyone looking to get connected and inspired by spending a weekend around an amazing group of Type 1s. All running levels welcome, as there are many ways to be a part of the team… or just come out to cheer! Set some running goals for 2017 NOW and join Connected In Motion as we head to Ottawa, Ontario to participate in the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend!

You have three options when it comes to registering for the 2017 Ottawa Marathon Weekend with Connected in Motion:

As a participant (running, walking, and/or cheering) with Connected in Motion (No fundraising element, event weekend costs will be covered by participant including race bib, team dinner, and accommodation).
As a participant + fundraiser with Connected in Motion (Fundraising incentives are included below – All donations of $20 will receive a tax receipt!)
As a Spectathlete with Connected in Motion! (What is a spectathlete, you ask? Do you take your cheering seriously? Do you want to be there to support a loved one and the CIM community at large? Then you’re a spectathlete! No fundraising required, but always appreciated!)

Registration is open to both Type 1s and 5.5ers (What’s a 5.5er, you ask? 5.5ers are an important part of the CIM community – the friends, families, and supporters of folks living with Type 1 who makes are lives infinitely easier!) Bring out your families and friends to join us during the weekend’s events by walking, running, or cheering!

How to proceed with registering for Ottawa Race Weekend 2017

Step 1 (Are you a spectathlete? Cheering Only? – Skip to Step 2)

You must first register for the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend for the race of your choice. (Don’t forget to choose ‘Connected in Motion’ as the official charity you are running for!)

Step 2

Please register as part of Team Connected in Motion. This will help us keep you up to date on information around the weekend, plan numbers for team meals, coordinate our cheering stations and generally help us keep track of numbers.

Step 3

Want to fundraise? Great! Head over to our StayClassy fundraising page and create your very own fundraising page!

(Please note: if you do not already have a Classy account you will need to set that up before creating your personal Ottawa Race Weekend Fundraising Page.)

Also, remember – All Canadian donations $20 and over are 100% tax deductible!

Choosing to Fundraise?

We are so proud to be part of such an enthusiastic, supportive, and adventurous community. THANK YOU!! We are very excited to announce a great new incentive to help motivate you to keep striding to the next level.

Commit to fundraise a minimum of $250 for Connected In Motion and receive a CIM Gift Pack that includes but not limited to, a CIM Race Jersey to help you along your running and fundraising journey.

For every $100 raised for Connected In Motion you’ll be entered into a draw to win our Prize Pack. The more you raise, the more chances you have to win! All donations must be entered and accepted by Thursday May 25th at 11:59pm EST to count towards entry into the draw.

What is a 5.5er, anyway?

What is a 5.5er, you ask? 5.5ers are an important part of the diabetes community, that’s for sure! They are Friends, Family, Loved Ones, Co-Workers, etc of People with T1 – who always seem to have that ever-elusive BG of 5.5mmol/L.

Where will we be cheering?

Connected in Motion will, for the 4th year in a row, be rocking the best cheering station on the route, located just 800m from the finish line of the 5k, 10k, Half and Full marathons at McLeod Street and Queen Elizabeth Drive. More details coming soon.

Can I store my belongings at the cheer station?

You sure can! The station is 800m from the finish line. Feel free to leave your stuff at the station while you run your race. Family and friends are welcome to come and cheer with us at the station. Also feel free to store your bike at the station between rides around the course!

I have a special dietary need - celiac, dairy sensitivity, allergy - Can you accommodate me?

We work hard to to ensure that we can meet the dietary needs of all of everyone. We work with a caterer for our picnic dinner and we try our best to accommodate for everyone, however we can’t guarantee there isn’t cross contamination.  We’ll try our best to make sure that you’re comfortable with the food situation!

Will there be low supplies, or do I need to pack my own?

There will be emergency low supplies at our cheer station (juice, dextrose tabs,  granola bars, etc.) Please bring your own favourites for your race day plan – we’ve got your back if you need more!
