WHAT: Annual Canoe Trip
WHERE: French River Provincial Park, Ontario
WHEN: August 23-26, 2018
WHO: Adults (18+) with Type 1 diabetes
REGISTRATION FEE: $295

Whether it’s your first or one-hundredth trip, we want to paddle with you.

Take part in our 9th Annual Canoe Trip in Ontario. This will be a chance to share your experiences with other Adults with Type 1 diabetes while exploring the lakes of Ontario’s French River Provincial Park. While immersing ourselves in outdoor activity, we’ll be swapping tips and tricks for living a healthy life with Type 1.

As always, the Annual Canoe Trip will cater to a wide range of skill levels and experience but will be very limited in space. We will be accepting 14 participants with Type 1 Diabetes.

Where will we be paddling?

We’ll spend Thursday evening car camping at Grundy Lake Provincial Park before making the short shuttle to French River Provincial Park after breakfast on Friday.  From there, we’ll canoe into the Georgian Bay wilds to explore.  We’ll spend Friday and Saturday nights on different backcountry camping sites – canoeing, soaking up the silence, eating tasty food and having a grand old time.

Who can attend a CIM Canoe Trip?

Each CIM Canoe Trip caters to a different group of people. Check out the options below and see where you might fit!

Annual Canoe Trip: Offered for adults who are living with Type 1 diabetes. There is something special that happens when you’re surrounded by a community of people who ‘get it’. Although we are so grateful for our support networks – our 5.5ers – Our Annual Canoe Trip is open exclusively to people living with Type 1 diabetes. (Don’t worry, 5.5ers – More coming for you, soon! 5.5er Canoe Trip: Do you have a loved one with Type 1 diabetes? Welcome to the 5.5er Club (read more about how it got its name, here.) CIM’s 5.5er Trip is for the support network of our Type 1 community, and hey, you can bring your Type 1 along, too! This trip has typically been a unique mix of partners, parents, aunts/uncles, and best friends of our Type 1 participant. It’s a great chance to connect with other 5.5ers, learn how others manage, and figure out some great ways to be the best support there is for our T1 crew.

Teen Canoe Trip: Our Teen Canoe Trip will pair teens with Type 1 diabetes with CIM mentors to explore the backcountry together, and learn what this whole ‘adult care’ thing is all about. While exploring the lakes and woods of Ontario’s near north, we will discuss the highs and lows of transitioning to adulthood with T1 diabetes. Each teen trip works directly with a pediatric diabetes clinics to bring that clinic’s patients together, along with a CDE, trained guides, and Type 1 mentors. Interested in getting involved? Email jen@connectedinmotion.ca

Extended Canoe Trip: This trip caters to adult with Type 1 diabetes who have some canoe trip experience and those who crave a longer adventure. We’ll be in the backcountry for a full week for a chance to experience Canada’s wilderness, to disconnect from technology and to reconnect with nature. These trips will usually involve full days on the water, longer and/or more frequent portaging, and a chance to experience some amazing, remote locations. Prior canoe tripping experience is required.
