On September 21st, twenty-five Type 1s converged at Strathcona Park Lodge & Outdoor Centre on the shores of Upper Campbell Lake, Vancouver Island. Like tributaries of a river, we came together for a weekend to flow in the first Western Slipstream.
Ive been helping manage Connected in Motions social media profiles for the past little while. As we make our way to the month of November, and the organization heads into its major fundraising event Slipstream in the City, I have been thinking a lot about peoples diabetes stories I have heard over the years Ive been involved with Connected in Motion.

I thought it would be an easy task: recounting a five-day canoe trip in Algonquin Park with 10 other Type 1s (and one 5.5er).But when I sat down to write, I struggled where to even I begin.
This past weekend, Connected in Motion experienced another first – The very first event dedicated to our community of 5.5ers (friends, family members, loved ones of anyone with T1!) The three-day backcountry canoe trip, which took place in Algonquin Park, Ontario, invited 5.5ers out to meet other 5.5ers. We even invite them to bring their Type 1s along!
