There are very few times where I feel that I have been lucky to actually have diabetes.<\/p>\n
Usually, thinking about my life with diabetes makes me ashamed, angry, sad, depressed, bitter or frustrated.<\/p>\n
But this weekend, this weekend I saw the other side.\u00a0 A glimpse to an alternate reality, where its cool to have diabetes.\u00a0 Its OK to be low.\u00a0 Perfectly fine for your pump to alarm in public.\u00a0 No issues sucking your finger after you test your blood.<\/p>\n
Winter Slipstream 2011 was a safe place \u2013 a place to let it all hang out.\u00a0 Everyone \u2018got it\u2019.\u00a0 I could relate to others, and they could relate to me.\u00a0 There was no \u2018you don\u2019t have diabetes so you don\u2019t know how I was feeling\u2019.\u00a0 We all have it.<\/p>\n
We talked.\u00a0 Shared.\u00a0 Empathized.\u00a0 We told stories \u2013 good ones, bad ones.\u00a0 There was talk of lancet roulette.\u00a0 People were thrown in the air, they landed, and were OK.\u00a0 Games were made up and played.\u00a0 I never knew T1\u2032s were so freaking competitive!!<\/p>\n
There was swag.\u00a0 Merch.\u00a0 Adult Beverages.\u00a0 Future activities planned, discussed.\u00a0 People came from all over.\u00a0 Ithaca New York, Sherbrooke QC, Moncton NB, Prince George BC, Canmore and Calgary AB.\u00a0 All over Ontario.<\/p>\n
Connections were made.\u00a0 Bonds were strengthened.\u00a0 World domination discussed.<\/p>\n
