Connected on the Slopes

By February 22, 2010The Log Book

On Saturday, CIMers hit the slopes at Chicoppe Ski Resort in Kitchener. It was great to see some new faces out for the first time!
Overcast skies didn’t deter us. With helmets secured, goggles in postion, we strapped on our boards, stepped into our skis and hit the magic carpet.
For most, it was their first time on a snowboard, so the Bunny Hills were the place to be! Chicopee is a great spot for beginners with lots of green and blue runs. After a morning lesson and a few trips up the carpet, it was time for a break. Our crew came together to test, bolus and enjoy lunch (and a pint!) outside on the patio.
I’ve found that skiing and boarding pose a challenge when it comes to BG’s. It’s a complicated mix of quick cardio, using power muscles and sitting idle on a chair lift. There is the excitement, adrenaline and stress hormones to contend with (especially if you’re just learning). Then there is the hot chocolate, fries and cold pints that are simply irresistable in the lodge when you come off the hill. Hi’s and low’s are to be expected.
Our team was on top of things- testing in the lodge, on the chair lifts, magic carpet and at the top and bottom of the hill!
By the afternoon, boarders were linking their turns and riding the magic carpet with skill and style.
We didn’t need a big mountain to have a fantastic day. Snow, fresh air and exercise right in downtown Kitchener!
After a great day on the slopes, we left Chicopee with big bruises but even bigger smiles.
