CIM bumps, sets, spikes

Sixty Slipstreamers took over Beach Blast on Saturday night. Beach Blast, a giant warehouse of sand in the West end, was the perfect venue for Connected in Motion’s first ever ‘Bumps n’ Pumps Beach Volleyball Tournament’ – our biggest event yet!

Leading up to the tournament, registrants were overly humble about their abilities. Turns out there were dozens and dozens of fantastic volleyball players and even a number of pro’s in our midst!
There was some serious ‘bump, set, spiking’ going on as eight teams took to the courts for three games each.

Normally mild-mannered individuals showed their competitive spirit as the night wore on – jumping, diving and face planting for points.

During break rotations, teams had a chance to relax (although many continued to play on extra courts – they just couldn’t get enough!), test BG’s, hydrate and refuel. There was plenty of Dex 4 to go around as always!! And a few extra bags of goodies from Team “Aged to Perfection”!

In many cases, teammates were just getting to know one another. There were a bunch of new faces in the crowd – people who heard about CIM at their clinic, through their friends and some who simply found us online. It was fantastic to see everyone hanging out and to overhear conversations about basal adjustments and the effects of dehydration on blood glucose readings coming from the sidelines.

Sticky, sweaty and sandy after three games apiece, the top six teams progressed to the semi-finals where things really started to heat up.
The final was a match between ‘Sets on the Beach’ and ‘Can you dig it’ with ‘Can you dig it’ coming out on top (pictured below!).

A fun fact – the winning team had the highest percentage of Type 1 member with 4 out of 5 players with the ‘betes!  Yeah Diabetes!!

The night wrapped up with a raffle for some awesome Dex 4 gift baskets, glucometers and strips and Salba for the winning team!

Thanks to all the teams for coming out – a special shout out to ‘I’d hit that’ and ‘The Sugar Spikers’ for their awesome team wear.

And of course and huge thanks to Jen and Shawn for making the event a smashing success.

Is anyone else still finding sand??

Where was this held and when? We would like to play in this if you’re having one in 2010.
