Review: Sanofi’s JuniorSTAR Insulin Pen

By July 24, 2014June 29th, 2015The Log Book

The JuniorSTAR insulin pen has arrived in Canada, and our friends over at Sanofi Canada asked us to help get the word out about the new addition to their product line-up.

The JuniorSTAR pen has been designed to help young people with Type 1 take charge of their diabetes care. Its aluminum design makes it robust and, yet, lightweight. The clear dosage scale makes it easy to bolus. The minimal graphic design makes it discreet.

What do all these elements mean practically for the younger crowd managing their diabetes with insulin?

    1. It’s okay to be sensitive. Diabetes varies quite a bit between individuals, but a lot of younger people with Type 1 remain sensitive to the effects of insulin. For these individuals, the half-unit dosing of the JuniorSTAR pen may make more sense than full units.

    2. Quiet can be just as good. Sometimes you like to have loud colourful graphic designs all over your diabetes supplies, sometimes you don’t. Available in a plain blue or silver colour—the JuniorSTAR pens allow for something a little more inconspicuous. Then, when someone finds out you have diabetes it’s because you chose to tell them, and not because someone asked “Why do you shove the end of that bright pen plastered with super sweet dinosaurs into your leg every time you eat?”

    3. They’ve been engineered to last. A lot of young people with diabetes want to keep up and active with their friends. The JuniorSTAR, built of aluminum, was constructed to withstand the wear and tear of being carted around by any active individual.

If these elements all sounds like a plus to you, and you’d like to give the JuniorSTAR pen a try, they are available free of charge through your diabetes clinic. Once you’ve tried it, let us know what you think in the comments!

Are there products out there that you have always wanted to know the scoop on? Let us know! CIM is excited as we begin to share more about all that it out there to make our lives easier with diabetes.
