Most officials at major airports across Canada understand the insulin pump as a medical device, at least in my experience. Internationally, I did have difficulty travelling through Phoenix at one point… which resulted in a physical search. This is actually also the only time I have ever presented the travel letter prepared by my doctor. After quite a thorough search of my person and bags, my advice for other travellers is to be calm and forthcoming, and of course to ask for a supervisor if you become uncomfortable. It will hopefully mean that the next travelling diabetic will be met with more awareness thanks to your prior visit!

Thanks Katie!
Great advice!
