Western Slipstream | British Columbia

September 25, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - September 27, 2015 @ 2:00 pm UTC+0

What is a Slipstream Weekend, anyway?

Western Slipstream Weekend.
A Slipstream Weekend is an active, social and educational weekend for adults (19+) living with Type 1 diabetes. But that explanation sounds so formal… What it really is… is a weekend jam packed full of outdoor adventure, engaging workshops, great food and incredible people. It’s a chance to connect (or re-connect) with like-minded Type 1s, get out and try something new, learn from each others’ experiences, and celebrate the year’s accomplishments – focusing on the positive aspects of what we CAN do with Type 1 diabetes.

Who can attend a Slipstream Weekend?

Western Slipstream is being offered for adults, 19+, whom are living with Type 1 diabetes. There is something special that happens when you’re surrounded by a community of people who ‘get it’. Although we are so grateful for our support networks – our 5.5ers – Western Slipstream is open exclusively to people living with Type 1 diabetes. (Don’t worry, 5.5ers – More coming for you, soon! Interested in getting involved in the CIM community? Learn how, here!

Where is it going down?

The Cheakamus Centre will play host to Connected in Motion’s 4th Western Slipstream weekend. Located on 420 acres of ecological reserve in Paradise Valley, the Cheakamus Centre is 16km from Squamish, BC. Squamish is where the ocean meets the mountains in Sea to Sky country. An hour drive from Vancouver and reachable by coach bus, this location easily accessible. Our weekend schedule will make the most of this outdoor adventure playground as well as providing some time downtime for you to relax and soak it all in.

Winter Slipstream weekends are always inspiring. The limits of my comfort zone have always expanded. Being surrounded by people who know how to gently persuaded me to accomplish what I though I couldn't is a fantastic experience. A experience that always happens at Slipstream weekends

Winter Slipstream Participant, 2015

I have never experienced anything like Slipstream. The meaning behind the name describes exactly what I felt while spending an entire weekend with other type 1’s. We were all riding in the Slipstream, and while we were there, having type 1 diabetes was the new “normal”. It meant that I wasn’t the only one who had to work a little extra hard to live my life everyday, and experiencing this made it seem as if that burden was lifted altogether.

Western Slipstream Participant, 2014

It's hard to put into words what a weekend with like minded people can do for the soul. Sometimes diabetes can be a lonely solo voyage and its hard to let people into the emotional experience, so wonderful to meet people with such a vest for life living with what you live with on a daily basis. helps bring perspective to your day to day struggles when you know you are not alone.

PNW Slipstream Participant, 2013

Don’t Believe Us. Just Watch.
