What Will Happen During the Workshop?
Michelle and CIM share a belief that the current changes and fears in society present us with an opportunity to think differently about problem solving, finding purpose, and building on strengths. How can we connect with one another and inspire change even while sequestered at home? Skills like balancing thoughts, incorporating mindfulness and practicing acceptance are more important than ever! As Type 1’s, we have been practicing “mental toughness” for years, let’s take it to the next level!
In the spirit of Slipstreams, we will make this workshop as interactive as possible. We will share the slides and a handout for notes and journalling ahead of time so you can complete exercises as she leads you through the presentation. We hope people want to discuss and chat about the topics at the end as well! We cannot wait to see you there!

About Michelle Sorensen
Michelle Sorensen
Michelle Sorensen, founder of the Ottawa South Resiliency Clinic, is a registered clinical psychologist with 20 years of experience providing counselling and psychological services for a wide range of personal problems. These include anxiety and depression, interpersonal issues (both personal and professional), life transitions, and coping with chronic illness. She provides therapy for adults aged 18 and over, including seniors.
Her approach to working with clients centers around a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) framework, which is based on years of research and empirical evidence. She also integrates mindfulness training into her CBT approach. This involves developing self-compassion, accepting what we cannot control and living in the present moment. Michelle believes in a collaborative approach, based on her view that there are two experts in the room. She sees her role as a psychologist as being very active and takes the lead when her client needs guidance.
She is also very involved in the diabetes community across Canada and works with clients struggling with the psychological impact of living with diabetes.
