WHAT: Western Slipstream
WHERE: Canmore, Alberta
WHEN: June 17th – June 19th
WHO: Adults (18+) with Type 1 diabetes
Whether it’s your first or not it’s your first Slipstream, we want to spend the weekend with you!
A Slipstream Weekend is an active, social and educational weekend for adults (18+) living with Type 1 diabetes. But that explanation sounds so formal… What it really is… is a weekend jam packed full of outdoor adventure, engaging workshops, great food and incredible people. It’s a chance to connect (or reconnect) with like-minded Type 1s, get out and try something new, learn from each other’s’ experiences, and celebrate the year’s accomplishments – focusing on the positive aspects of what we CAN do with Type 1 diabetes.
The Alpine Club of Canada in Canmore Alberta will play host to Connected in Motion’s 5th Western Slipstream weekend.
Whether you’re mountain biking, hiking, or looking for a comfortable stop on your journey through the Rockies, the Canmore Clubhouse is your perfect base. It’s located a comfortable 4.5 km from downtown Canmore on a sunny bench overlooking the Bow Valley – far enough away to be completely quiet and close enough to take advantage of all the amenities of town.
Our weekend schedule will make the most of this outdoor adventure playground as well as providing some time downtime for you to relax and soak it all in. As always, Western Slipstream will cater to a wide range of skill levels and experience, and we’ll tailor our weekend to what is relevant to you!

What will we be doing?
Breakfasts, dinners, and overnights will be spend in the Alpine Club Of Canada. Our days will be mixed with outdoor activities, breakout sessions, and time to relax. We’ll be heading off site to get outside and will make sure everyone has a way to get where they need to go!
FAQs
What sort of gear do I need to bring along with me?We’ll be spending most of our days outside and may encounter a variety of weather conditions. Good running shoes/light hiking boots, rain gear, and a small daypack are essential for the weekend. A detailed packing list will be sent out to those that have registered a few weeks in advance of the event. This will allow you time to figure out if you have everything you need!
I have a special dietary need – celiac, dairy sensitivity, allergy – Can the event accommodate me?
We work hard to to ensure that we can meet the dietary needs of everyone attending. We’ll work closely with you to make sure that you’re comfortable with the food situation. We don’t want food to be a stress! Will there be low supplies, or do I need to pack my own?
Low supplies will be plentiful! We’ll supply dextrose tabs, granola bars, etc. As always, if you have your own favourites, please bring them along!
