This unique position is perfect for those who have experienced the magic of Slipstream as participants and are now ready to step up as the face and on-site leader of our programs. With events taking place throughout North America, you’ll have the opportunity to choose your involvement, leading one or more Slipstreams per year according to your availability and interest.

What you’ll be doing

  • On-site Leadership: As the primary face of the program, you’ll guide participants through the event, ensuring everything runs smoothly and everyone has a memorable time.
  • Logistics and Problem-Solving: Tackle any logistical challenges that arise, using your initiative and resourcefulness to keep the program on track.
  • Post-Trip Debrief: After the event, you’ll have a debrief with the Slipstream Coordinator to discuss outcomes and any notable occurrences.

What your work environment is like

This position is all about being in the field, leading and engaging with participants in various outdoor settings across North America. While there’s minimal behind-the-scenes work, you’ll be active on-site, managing logistics, and ensuring the program’s success.

What you’ll bring to the position

We’re looking for individuals who are charismatic, responsible, and ready to take on the challenge of leading our Slipstream events. Your ability to connect with people, solve problems on the fly, and maintain a positive, energetic atmosphere is key to success in this role.

Minimum qualifications we are looking for

  • Facilitation Experience: While event planning isn’t necessary, your experience in leading or facilitating groups will be invaluable.
  • Slipstream Participant: Having attended a Slipstream weekend as a participant is essential, as it provides firsthand insight into the community and experience you’ll be leading.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address and resolve issues as they arise, ensuring the program continues to run smoothly.
  • Leadership and Engagement: Proven ability to engage with diverse groups and lead with enthusiasm and confidence.

Qualifications that would enhance your application

  • Volunteer Management: If you have experience coordinating volunteers, it will be beneficial in managing the dynamic teams that support our events.
  • Digital Proficiency: Comfort with digital tools can be advantageous in facilitating communication and engagement.

Compensation offered

As a Slipstream Lead, you’ll be part of a vibrant community that values your contribution and offers opportunities to grow and connect. While this is a contract position, we ensure a competitive rate and a supportive environment. The starting compensation for a Slipstream Lead is CAD$165.75 per 24-hour period.

Adventure Guide

Description

Connected in Motion is seeking dynamic and skilled individuals to join our team as Adventure Guides, leading a variety of outdoor trips including canoeing, winter excursions, and hiking adventures throughout the year. As an Adventure Guide, you will be responsible for creating safe, enjoyable, and impactful experiences for individuals living with Type 1 diabetes, fostering a sense of community and empowerment through adventure.

What you’ll be doing

  • Pre-Trip Responsibilities: Collaborate on trip planning, understand participant medical and dietary needs, lead on food and gear preparation, and familiarize yourself with CIM’s emergency and tripping manuals.
  • During Trip Responsibilities: As the face of the adventure, manage all aspects of the trip, ensuring participant safety, leading activities, and fostering a supportive and fun environment. Tackle any challenges that arise with confidence and care.
  • Post-Trip Responsibilities: Lead the cleanup and debrief process, ensuring gear is maintained and participant feedback is collected for continual improvement.

What you’ll bring to the position

We’re seeking resilient, empathetic, and experienced individuals with a genuine passion for outdoor adventure and a commitment to creating supportive community experiences.

Minimum qualifications we are looking for

  • Wilderness Experience: Proven skills in leading outdoor expeditions in various settings.
  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) Certification: Current certification or willingness to obtain it before leading trips.
  • Water Safety Certification: Holding a Bronze Cross, Wilderness Water Safety, Whitewater Rescue Technician, Swiftwater Rescue Technician, or NLS certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Criminal Record Check: A clean record for the safety and trust of our participants.
  • Valid Driver’s License: For travel between event locations.

Qualifications that would enhance your application

  • Familiarity with Type 1 Diabetes: Understanding the specific needs and considerations for individuals living with Type 1 diabetes is highly advantageous.
  • Diverse Trip Experience: Experience in leading various types of trips, such as canoeing, hiking, and winter excursions.

Candidates for both Slipstream Lead and Adventure Guide positions will be engaged as independent contractors, not restricted to residing in Ontario but required to be available for travel to assigned events across North America. While CIM will cover travel from your home base to the event locations, you are responsible for managing your taxes, insurance, and any other obligations associated with self-employment. These roles offer flexibility and independence, along with competitive compensation for each event.
