The MiniMed™ 770G system was approved by Health Canada on December 4, 2020. This is the latest in the line of self-adjusting pump systems from Medtronic, after the approval and launch of the MiniMed™ 670G in the Fall of 2018

If you haven’t had the chance to learn about the MiniMed™ 670G, take a moment to get caught up by reading our community review with Paul and Meghan from April 2019.

Below are a few highlights of the MiniMed™ 770G system (starting with the new features):

  • Smartphone App: Includes a Bluetooth enabled smartphone app to allow you to see real-time CGM trends. The app will also let care-partners see CGM trends
  • Bluetooth Enabled: This is an important and exciting element that will allow the 770G system to update software wirelessly. We’re keeping an eye on the exciting 780G software/algorithm update that became available in Europe in June of 2020
  • Automatic CareLink Uploads: We’ll track down more details here, but we’re assuming that this means, instead of needing to manually push your CGM and Pump data to the CareLink system, that this will happen automatically, taking out a step and reducing diabetes burden associated with data review and diabetes team visits
  • Guardian™ Link (3) Transmitter: The 770G will use a NEW transmitter (to enable the Bluetooth features) but the same sensors as with the 670G.
  • Next Tech Pathway Program: This program will allow people to try to the MiniMed™ 670G system and upgrade for $0 to the MiniMed™ 770G System once it’s available. The NEXT software update (CIM expects this may be the 780G software update) will be made available to customers free of charge. Medtronic Canada team is also working on some incentives to reduce the financial burden of pumping including a free transmitter and 3 months of sensors for anyone opting into the sensor subscription program. More on this soon.
  • Indication/approval for 2+ years: The MiniMed™ 770G System has been approved by Health Canada for everyone ages two and older.

Additional features of the pump that were also available as part of the MiniMed™ 670G system:

  • Reservoir Size: Can hold 300 units of Rapid-Acting Insulin
  • Site Specifics: Works with Medtronic’s line of pump sites – Quick-set, Silhouette, Mio, Mio 30, Mio Advance, and Sure-T.
  • Waterproof: Up to 3.6m for 24 hours
  • Bolus Wizard: Built-in bolus calculator that considers active insulin, carbs and BG to help determine precise bolus amounts
  • Colour Home Screen: Home screen shows active insulin, CGM reading (if using CGM) OR last BG readings entered in past 12 minutes, bolus and basal options
  • Basal Patterns: Ability to save 8 basal patterns (think, sick day, aerobic workout day, travel day, ‘time of the month’ day… the list goes on!)
  • Preset Bolus: You can save preset boluses. Do you always bolus the same for breakfast? Save that bolus in your pump for easy access
  • Event Markers & Reminders: You can tag events on your pump to show up in your records – exercise, feeling sick, stressed, etc. You can also have the pump send you reminders: check BG 2 hours after meal, etc.
  • Auto Mode – automatically adjusts basal insulin every 5 minutes based on glucose readings – Some user interaction required.
