Jan. 14 Monday in Motion Recap: Keeping motivated

This week’s question: How do people plan to stay motivated and on track with their activity goals for the year?

Responses: This week’s responses all seemed to focus, in one way or another, on keeping motivated by connecting with others about a goal. Jen said that she struggles a lot with keeping motivating, especially in the winter months, but that having a training buddy has really helped her continue training for the at work.

Virtue’s Take: I LOVE that people are creating and using connections to keep active! Having the support of others, and supporting them in return is a great way to keep at it. Another thing that I find helpful is to keep two prespectives in mind: (1) short term objectives and (2) long term goals. When I feel like the long-term goal is too big to tackle, I try to focus on what I need to do now (ex. today’s run, or walk, or workout.) Similarly, when I’m not feeling in the mood to get going I try to remember my long term goal and use that to get me moving. Also, if something always feels like a drag and you are really not enjoying it, it’s not failure to stop that activity and try something else. There’s such a variety of ways to keep active that you are bound to find something you like, if you keep looking… and it’s so much easier to keep at something if you really love it!
