At Virtual Slipstream, you’ll have the chance to learn about the team at Dexcom Canada, as well as about Clarity reports and how we can use them to make our diabetes management the best it can be. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing with you a bit more about some of the sessions we’re especially excited about taking in at Virtual Slipstream 2021. Below, check out what we expect to walk away with from these sessions.

Disclaimer: Please check out CIM’s Partners Page to learn more about the companies we work with. This post was delivered as part of an annual sponsorship package with our partner, but our partners do not review the content before publication and we strive to bring accurate and helpful information to the T1D online community. We still thought this info was important for you to know about.

We’re excited to welcome the team at Dexcom Canada to join us at Virtual Slipstream. As the community continues to work hard towards gaining more coverage and access for CGM products across Canada, we wanted to take some time to go beyond the basics and dive a bit deeper into CGM. We’ve worked with the team at Dexcom to be able to show people with Type 1 diabetes can better use the data obtained from CGM data, as well as to introduce the community to some of the folks at Dexcom working behind the scenes and learn more about what it’s like to create a product like a CGM.

(If you are interested in getting involved in advocacy and sharing your voice to help increase access to CGM in Canada, check out JDRF Canada’s #AccessForAll Campaign or the recommendations Diabetes Canada has made to the government for province-wide CGM coverage in Ontario).

There are two Dexcom specific sessions happening that we wanted to put on your radar:

In 2019, Dexcom launched its CLARITY app in Canada, allowing people who use their G6 system a way to easily view reports and access data that gives a variety of snapshot views of how our diabetes management is impacting glucose readings and time in range.

In the past, CIM has reported on the top features of CLARITY, as well as some new CLARITY features that launched in 2020. We’re excited to have the team at Dexcom Canada joining us to share more about what we can do with Dexcom CLARITY reports to set ourselves up for diabetes management success. If you’re interested in learning more about the system and using Dexcom CLARITY to fine-tune your diabetes goals, be sure to sign up for the Virtual Slipstream session:

Joining us will be Toni Thomas, RN, CDE. Toni is a Registered Nurse and Certified Diabetes Educator in the Toronto area. She has lived with Type 1 Diabetes since 1987 and has spent more than 15 years as a diabetes educator. During that time, Toni has provided education and support to children, families and adults living with diabetes, focusing on those who live with Type 1. She feels privileged to be able to play a role in the journey of those living with Type 1 Diabetes. In her spare time, Toni enjoys coming up with new creations in the kitchen, cuddling with her cat and planning her next vacation with her husband.

Below are some of the things that we’ll expect to learn from Toni’s session:

Dexcom Clarity Overview

Whether you’re a longtime Dexcom user, or just starting out with CGM, it’s always awesome to learn from an expert. Learn about the key features of Dexcom CLARITY and how the features can be valuable if you’re living with Type 1 diabetes.

Customizable Settings

While some Dexcom CLARITY settings are programmed based on international standards and consensus (the VERY HIGH and VERY LOW settings, for example), many of Dexcom CLARITY settings can be programmed based on YOUR individual needs and goals. Learn more about how you can adjust your day-time versus night-time ranges, for example, as well as set overall time-in-range goals.

Decision Making Tips

Learn from Toni about how you can use the various data gleaned from your Dexcom (think arrows, numbers, rates, trends, etc) to make decisions about your diabetes management and care.

Want more? Read CIM’s blog highlighting the 2020 updates to Dexcom CLARITY here.

We are also excited to have two special guests joining us for Dexcom’s Product Showcase session on Saturday April 24. You’ll have the opportunity to meet Vice President of Product at Dexcom, Apurv Kamath, as well as Spencer Frank, Algorithm Engineer. They’ll be offering the community a look behind the scenes at what goes in to making Dexcom products – something that we have never seen before and are really excited about! You can submit questions ahead of time for Apurv and Spencer to answer. We’ve already heard a few great ones about adhesive, and batteries.

Virtual Slipstream is Connected in Motion’s peer-led community event happening April 22-25, 2021.
