ANNUAL CANOE TRIP 2024

Algonquin Provincial Park

Magnetewan Access Point (#3), Ontario

June 20-23, 2024

A weekend of adventure by boat

A Support Crew Adventure

Connecting adults with Type 1 diabetes and our Support Crew in the backcountry.

Join us for an adventure with community, connection and continuing Type 1 diabetes education.

CIM Adventures help to connect people with Type 1 diabetes in the backcountry. The trips give you the chance to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle of your every day life; learn skills for taking diabetes into the wild; and step outside of your comfort zone into the place where magic happens. These programs are for veterans and new adventurers alike.

Experiential diabetes education

The outdoors is our classroom. The best way to learn is in the real world.

A Support Crew Event

A weekend developed specifically for adults with T1D and their Support Crew in mind.

Watch the magic happen

We help make life with T1D just a little bit easier.

Logistics

Whether it’s your first or hundredth trip, we want to adventure with you.

Days will be spent paddling and portaging, with lunch on the water. We’ll have time at camp each day to relax, hang a hammock, and take a swim. We’ll be able to learn from one another about how to set ourselves up for success, managing our Type 1 diabetes in the backcountry. Learn more about CIM’s programs here.

This trip will cater to a wide range of skill levels and experience and will be limited in space. We will be accepting 10 participants with Type 1 Diabetes as well as Support Crew (those people (18+) in our lives who help make Type 1 diabetes a little bit easier, but who DON’T have Type 1).

Need some canoeing tips? No problem! Basic skill instruction opportunities can be provided on the Thursday pre-trip – Let us know if you are interested!

Algonquin Provincial Park, renowned for its expansive wilderness and captivating landscapes, is a haven for nature enthusiasts and backcountry adventurers. Located in the heart of Ontario, this park is a mosaic of lush forests, tranquil lakes, and winding rivers, particularly in its western part where our journey begins. From the rugged, natural beauty to the serene ambiance, Algonquin offers an immersive outdoor experience.

Getting There? Accommodations? Food? Packing List?

Oops, you’ve scrolled too far! All of that information is answered further up the page.

I'm not super fit. I don't know if I'll be able to handle this event.

Of course you will! The CIM team are trained educators and adventure guides. We work hard to make sure that everyone experiences success, defined on your own terms. Whether that’s climbing a mountain, or just strolling to the trailhead, we’ll mould the experience to suit all ability levels. We’ll encourage you to step to the edge of your comfort zone, but we won’t push you off!

I have a special dietary need: celiac, dairy sensitivity, allergy, etc. Can the venue accommodate me?

We do our best to accommodate special dietary requests, and our team works closely with the venue to ensure they are aware of any food allergies or special diets in the group. If you have a special dietary concern, please be sure to let us know during the registration process so we can find out what accommodations or substitutions the venue is able to offer.

Will there be low supplies on site, or do I need to pack my own?

Low supplies will be plentiful, but it’s always a good idea to bring your own! We’ll supply juice boxes, glucose tabs, granola bars, etc. As always, if you have your own favourites, please bring them along! (Maybe they will become our favourites, too!)
